10 Outdoor Christmas Decorating Ideas to Light Up Your Front Yard

Your outdoor decorations are the ones the whole neighborhood sees. Good news: you don't need a ladder or hours out in the cold to get a great result. Here are ten easy ideas, from the front of the house to the front door.

1. Make it snow on your house

A waterproof snowflake projector with 16 rotating patterns covers an entire wall in seconds. It's the most spectacular effect for the least effort.

2. Wrap your trees in solar string lights

Wind IP65 solar copper wire lights through a tree or hedge: no outlet, no cords, they charge in the sun and offer 8 lighting modes.

3. Outline the porch or railing

Solar rope lights, 7 or 12 m long (23 or 39 ft), draw a continuous line of light along a railing, porch or fence.

4. Light the walkway

A set of 6 solar stakes shaped like Santa, a tree and a reindeer guides guests to your door and goes in the ground in two minutes.

5. Bring in a giant

Nothing stops people in their tracks like a giant inflatable: the 8 ft gingerbread man or the 9.5 ft Santa. Our tips to anchor them properly are in our Christmas inflatables guide.

6. Make your windows glow

Hanging light-up decorations (snowflake, Santa, star…) or a curtain light with remote turn every window into a Christmas display you can see from the street.

7. Write your message in lights

The 400-LED smart curtain shows your own messages and animations from your phone: "Merry Christmas", the kids' names… Hang it behind a window or in a sheltered spot.

8. Frame the door with greenery

A 9 ft (275 cm) cypress garland or a Norfolk pine garland around the entry gives a warm welcome, day and night.

9. Dress up the doorstep

A Santa and gingerbread Christmas doormat greets your guests with a smile.

10. Light flameless candles

Tuck flameless LED candles into lanterns on the porch: all the glow of a flame, with none of the risk.

Before you start

  • Check the waterproof rating (IP44 or IP65) on each product page before using anything outdoors.
  • Use outdoor-rated extension cords and keep power units sheltered.
  • A timer switches everything on at dusk, so you never have to think about it.
